The next step is to create the assets themselves, this process being the key to developing your branding, narrowing down the style your 5 assets will adopt in order to best attract and serve your target audience.
In order for me to understand exactly what your business needs, in terms of visual styling, we’ll have an in-depth discussion about every aspect, which will enable me to form a strong concept for the look and feel of your assets before I launch into the design process.

( i ) Font Selection – It’s important to choose the right fonts to complement the rest of your branding. Often a single font family in enough, if it contains a range of styles, but your brand may need a few different fonts for various applications. |

This is one in a series of dozens of Video Splash designs I’ve created for Michael Elsner of Master Music Licensing, a highly successful online course. Michael releases short videos on a regular basis for various blogs and each one requires a front cover, which is used as the thumbnail preview, so that his audience can see the topic of each video at a glance.
Local board game shop, Counter Culture Games, offers a gaming room for customers to play various roleplay adventure games, as well as stocking a huge range of games on their shelves. Social Media plays an important part in their marketing and, as their clientele tends to occupy a certain demographic, they decided that their Facebook page needed a temporary facelift during the Football World Cup, in order to draw in some new custom.
Produce like a Boss is a successful online music production school, offering courses and 1-to-1 tuition and mentoring for musicians who want to improve their production and mixing skills. This square-format ad design was created especially for use on the popular social media platform, Instagram, to promote the launch of their latest course.
The well-known high street restaurant chain, Loch Fyne, host regular live music events for their customers, some of which celebrate special occasions. These are extremely popular and are often booked up months in advance. To help promote this particular event, which was for their New Year’s Eve party, I was commissioned to design menu posters, detailing the courses for the meal, as well as several different acts performing in their various venues across London.
Although not as common these days, many businesses still require letterheads and complement slips for posting various items to clients and customers. This example is typical of this kind of asset; single-sided, with a header banner spanning the design and a blank space allowing room for a hand-written note to the recipient.
Flyers and postcards are still a very common asset for mail-outs and cold-drop marketing campaigns, especially for small businesses who wish to promote their services in the local area, but also for national and international corporations. This A6 flyer was commissioned by Satvada Retreats, a yoga retreats company, hailing from the UK, but offering exclusive retreats in Morocco, France, Spain and other European destinations.
As much as social media platforms now account for a vast proportion of current marketing, the humble business card is still of primary importance to many businesses and individuals. They’re small and convenient, but provide just enough space to present to your customers with the vital information needed to get across what services and/or products you provide, as well as your all-important contact details. This particular business card is of the plastic variety, offering longevity and style.
As a small yoga and sound healing business promoting their services, a CD was the perfect solution for Beyond Sound Yoga. This design was simple yet elegant, with a double-sided insert, displaying the front cover and a track listing on the reverse, as well as all the necessary contact info.
A fantastic way to promote your services and bring in new regular clients, Gift Vouchers are invaluable for any business, whether you provide exclusive services or sell unique products. Current customers who enjoy what you offer can purchase one of these as a gift for friends and family – and with a face value of a product or service that you have already sold, a Gift Voucher also acts as a personal recommendation to new potential customers that doesn’t cost you a penny!
A Tri-fold brochure is a sheet of A4 paper or thin card that has 2 fold lines at 1/3 and 2/3 on its long edge, allowing it to be folded together into a mini brochure, producing 6 independent pages. This is a great asset type, as it allows for the arrangement of information into separate areas. It’s also a standard format used in many information points, which gives it a highly professional appearance.
This is a classic 4-page CD inlay; a single sheet of 120mm x 240mm paper, printed on both sides and folded down the centre to produce the 4 pages. Although the CD face is a separate item, it was included in the price, as it bears the same design as the front cover of the inlay. Richard Capener’s instrumental music is a pleasure to hear, played in the percussive style on acoustic guitar.
CD sleeves come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and designs. This one is my own invention, the ‘Greensleeve’, so named, as it uses a standard A4 sheet, which saves on wastage, printed on recycled paper or card, using vegetable-based inks. By folding the sheet in a particular pattern, the wraparound sleeve can be securely slotted into itself, thereby avoiding the need for glue. A truly eco-friendly method of packaging your CD or DVD.
Course materials are an essential part of any online course, as they provide students with written information they can reference at any time, without the need to log in and skip to a particular section of the videos that make up the bulk of the course. This downloadable PDF document forms part of the course materials that come with Maritza’s online course, Beat Behçets, which teaches sufferers of the syndrome how to adjust their diet in order to reduce the effects of their allergic reactions to certain foods.
When organising a performance at a theatre, with multiple actors, backstage crew, writers, choreographers, directors, lighting technicians, musicians, conductors, etc., it’s an excellent idea to provide a glossy programme for your audience to purchase as a memento of the show, which they can take home with them. It’s a chance to give everyone involved in the production the credit they’re due for their contribution and it’s a great way of monetizing the event beyond ticket sales. This 16-page programme was produced for Tomorrow’s Talent’s rendition of Miss Saigon, performed by a talented group of kids and teenagers.
Some CDs, especially albums, require a more extensive inlay booklet. This one is a 16-page booklet, with a front and back cover, a full track list, song lyrics writer’s credits and copyright information, as well as contact details for the record label, management and the band’s website and social media pages. The design was created from an extremely detailed illustration I produced for the band – see my Illustration Portfolio page – which was also used to create an animated online storybook website for the launch of this album, as well as numerous emails, ads, flyers, posters and online marketing campaigns.
